En el marco del Decreto Ejecutivo Nº 39453-MP-PLAN que establece el funcionamiento de los Consejos Regionales de Desarrollo (COREDES) la Ministra de Planificación Nacional y Política Económica Olga Marta Sànchez y el Ministro de la Presidencia Sergio Alfaro realizaron la Asamblea Constitutiva del COREDES de la Región Chorotega; con el fin de promover el desarrollo regional económico, social y ambiental, garantizando la sostenibilidad y el uso racional de los recursos públicos en la región. En la sesión se juramentó a los miembros del nuevo Consejo Regional de Desarrollo que entre otros, quedó integrado por Marta Villegas Alvarado (Segmento Cívico Comunal) como presidenta y Jorge López Ramírez (Consejo Territorial Santa Cruz) como vicepresidente.
